Hublot introduces a special form of synthetic sapphire, a global first, and a completely new color in the area of fine watchmaking with the new Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Purple Sapphire. This new edition displays a watchmaker relentlessly pursuing R&D, which has elevated it to one of the leading and most disruptive watch companies of the new millennium.
Each new color is the product of a delicate alchemy to mix a strong, expressive, and precise tone that is both transparent and flawlessly uniform within the mass of a highly intricate case. This unique purple color is a combination of Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) and chromium.
Hublot underlines its motto: to be first, unique, and different by merging a conventional complexity with sapphire in a completely new color. The watchmaker bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary, fusing substance and form, style and craft.
The case and movement fit in so well because their production methods are both meticulous. In this situation, Hublot has the most comprehensive experience in the watchmaking business dealing with sapphire. The translucent bezel and case in beautifully polished purple sapphire are matched by the classic Big Bang design’s six H-shaped titanium screws.
Inside the case there is a self-winding tourbillon movement with a power reserve of three days (72 hours). Ceramic ball bearings are used in its winding system. Instead of a standard oscillating weight, it employs a micro-rotor that is properly implanted into the calibre’s heart, providing a clear view of the whole movement.
This micro-rotor, which is located at 12 o’clock – a completely unparalleled location in watchmaking – creates a beautiful visual balance with the tourbillon, which is located at 6 o’clock and has the same proportions.
The movement’s airy look is enhanced by a delicate skeletonised and sandblasted plate. At 6 p.m., the tourbillon carriage spins on itself in one minute. The open dial’s visibility is improved by hands and hour markers that are accentuated by a luminous coating.
The innovative One Click express interchangeability mechanism and titanium folding clasp are featured on the translucent purple rubber strap with lined relief. This avant-garde timepiece is available in a limited edition of 50 pieces. For more information, visit The Time Place boutique.
