Racing in Style: Chopard Mille Miglia
Share

It all began in 1988 when Chopard became partner and official timekeeper of the famous Mille Miglia classic car rally. The non-stop race over the thousand miles ("mille miglia") from Brescia to Rome and back.

This now inseparable bond of love between fine mechanics and sporting performance proved the starting point for the much sought-after Mille Miglia watch collection.

For 30 years, at the very heart of the race, Chopard has presented a limited series inspired by these legendary speed machines.

To celebrate the anniversary, two new Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition have been released in suitably Italian style, one in stainless steel and the other in a very nice two-tone stainless steel and 18k rose gold combination.

The timepiece subtly evokes Mille Miglia racing cars from 1927 to 1940, with its anthracite engined-turned dial inspired by classical dashboards in a perfectly sized 42mm case with a smooth bezel.

The two-tone model is available in a limited-edition of only 100 pieces, while the stainless steel model is available in a 1.000 piece limited edition.

Three sub-dial occupy the dial. A small seconds display is positioned at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph counter is located at 6 o'clock and lastly, a 30-minute chronograph register sits at 9 o'clock.

Both the hour and minute hands together with the hour markers, are painted with luminescent coating. There is a window date located between 4 and 5 o'clock. The dial is framed with a chapter ring and a tachymeter scale. Just below the Chopard name there is the red Mille Miglia logo at 12 o'clock.

The Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition wears the Special Mille Miglia 30 anniversary partnership logo engraved on the case-back with a new leather strap with tire motif rubber lining and bright red contrast stitching.

Both watches are water resistant to 50 meters and fitted with screw-down crowns designed resembling a petrol-tank cap and pushers which are shaped like engine pistons.

The Mille Miglia race is not just about peak speeds but regularity and constancy, the two watches are powered by an automatic chronograph calibre ETA-2892 with COSC-chronometer certification.

This vintage-inspired looking with COSC-certified chrono will rock the wrist of car and timepiece enthusiasts.
