When the Big Bang was launched in 2005, it made a bold statement as an oversized, octagonal sports watch with a unique mix of materials. A decade later, Hublot introduced the Spirit of Big Bang, carrying the same spirit, but with a more intricate design. The Spirit features a tonneau-shaped, curved case, lateral rubber bumpers, and openworked dials. One sub-collection, focused on partnerships, includes models like the Sang Bleu, created with tattoo artist Maxime Plescia-Büchi.
The latest collaboration is with SORAI, a rhino conservation group, aiming to raise awareness and funds for rhino protection. This fourth Hublot x SORAI watch, and the first Spirit of Big Bang, is limited to 30 pieces and features a grey ceramic case with a tourbillon regulator.
The 42mm case, with a thickness of 13.25mm, is crafted from microblasted warm grey ceramic to mimic the unique colour of a rhino’s hide. This high-tech ceramic is known for being extremely tough, lightweight, and nearly scratch-proof, making it an ideal choice for the rugged environment of conservation and outdoor adventures.
The black rubber bumpers on both sides of the case and the six H-shaped screws on the bezel are signature elements of the Spirit of Big Bang. The large crown, made from black DLC-coated titanium, is microblasted and has a rubber grip for added functionality.
Despite its bold size, the case is designed with a pronounced curve to fit comfortably on the wrist. Unlike previous Big Bang SORAI models, which had 100m water resistance, this version with a tourbillon regulator has a reduced water resistance of 30m.
The manual-winding calibre HUB6020 is fully displayed and designed to complement the case. The openworked dial is supported by blackened suspension bridges and features three overlapping rings. The largest, an off-centred microblasted grey ring on the right, displays the hours and minutes with luminescent markers and hands.
At 6 o’clock is the tourbillon, and at 9 o’clock, a smaller grey ring indicates the five-day power reserve with white and red numerals. Despite showcasing the inner mechanics, the dial remains well-balanced and easy to read. If you look closely, SORAI’s rhino logo is positioned at 3 o’clock.
The sapphire caseback showcases more blackened openworked bridges, accented by bright rubies, offering a clear view of the movement’s intricate mechanics. The movement beats at 21.600 vibrations per hour and, despite being just 4mm thick, it delivers an impressive 115-hour power reserve.

The watch comes with two interchangeable straps: a grey fabric Velcro strap with a black ceramic and titanium deployant clasp, and a black rubber strap featuring a safari camouflage pattern.
